Karl May – President and CEO

Karl May has 20 years of experience as a high technology entrepreneur and executive. He joins OpVista from CHIPS and Systems, developer of programmable secure media processors for high definition televisions and set-top boxes. Previously, he served as Chairman and CEO of AP Engines, The industree (BarcoNet), and President and CEO of Convergent Networks. He served as president of Nortel’s Broadband Access Networks Division, and previously was Bay Network’s VP/GM of its Broadband Technology Division, where his team developed the market leading cable modem system. He also served in executive and engineering management positions at SGI and H-P.

Winston Way – CTO and Founder

Winston Way is a Fellow of both IEEE and Optical Society of America and a 20-year veteran in the R&D field of optical fiber communication systems and networks. Prior to founding OpVista in 2000 his experience included Applied Research at Bellcore, and National Chiao-Tung University, Taiwan. Dr. Way has also published a book on HFC systems (Academic Press, 1998) and over 100 journal and conference papers. He owns eighteen granted and more than one dozen pending U.S. patents. Dr. Way received a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.

Pirjo Tuomi – Senior Vice President, Worldwide Field Operations

Pirjo Tuomi brings over 20 years of sales expertise in the telecommunications and networking industry. She previously worked at BigBand Networks and was instrumental in helping the company move into the telecom market. Prior to BigBand, she was a VP of Sales at ADC and ran cable sales in the Americas for Bay Networks and Nortel.

Zahir Addetia – Vice President Product Management and Strategy

Zahir Addetia has over 25 years of Product Development and Product Management experience in Data networking and Telecommunications. Prior to OpVista, Zahir held Senior management positions at Nortel and Bell Northern Research and led Product Development and Product Management within Carrier Data, Broadband Access and Optical networking divisions. Zahir received MSc in Computer Science from McGill University, Canada and BSc in Computer Science from University of Manchester, England.

Chris Barnard – Vice President of Engineering

Chris Barnard has 20 years of WDM experience including engineering and management positions at Zhone Technologies, Ciena, ONI Systems, Cambrian Systems, Nortel, and the National Research Council of Canada. Dr. Barnard also founded a company that designed optical amplifier design software for Optiwave. He has more than 20 U.S. and foreign patents and over 25 journal and conference papers. Dr. Barnard received a Ph.D. from the University of Ottawa for which he was awarded the NSERC Prize for best Ph.D. thesis in engineering in Canada.

Rich Weber – Vice President of Operations

Rich Weber has over 20 years of operations management experience in the telecommunications and networking industry. He has successfully constructed supply chain models, operations infrastructure, and manufacturing operations from the ground up at various Silicon Valley startups. Rich has held executive and senior management positions at Trapeze Networks, Desana Systems, Alcatel, Alantec (Fore Systems), and OmniTel.
